DEBBIE DE MELLO PINE

Miss De Mello Pine has more than 32 years of training in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Hip-Hop, Gymnastics, Acrobatics, Hula, Tahitian, Maori and World Dance. She trained locally in the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as in Los Angeles, with teachers such as Michael Rooney, Joe Tremaine, Chris Dupre, Doug Caldwell, Mary Ann Norris and Dee McGee. Debbie has more than 25 years of experience as an instructor and choreographer. She began her teaching career at the age of 14, working as an instructor and choreographer at a local Bay Area studio, where she continued to teach for 18 years. In addition, she also maintained positions on the faculty of three local Adult Education Districts, acting as Principal Instructor and Dance Director for their Adult Education and Children’s Programs. In addition to her current position at Almaden School of Music, Art and Dance, Debbie also owns and directs Dance & Gym 4 Kidz Mobile Arts, a mobile Performing Arts program that provides classes in schools and community facilities throughout the Bay Area. She also judges many state and regional competitions throughout the year.

As a student , Debbie was awarded 100’s of championships and titles for her performances in Regional, State and National Competitions. Under her direction, Debbie’s students have also won countless championships and titles from the Regional to National levels. She is a member of the National Dance Association(NDA), American Association for Health, Physical Education Recreation/Dance, American Association for Leisure and Recreation(AALR), and regularly lends her time and talents to community outreach programs and youth organizations.


CLASS RULES

1. Observation of classes inside the dance studio is prohibited at all times. Parents and siblings must
remain in the front lobby area.

2. Students must be on time for classes. Any student that is more than 10 minutes late for class may
not participate in class that day. It is important that students arrive on time, and do not miss
warm-ups or disrupt classes due to late arrival.

3. Students must abide by the dress code at all times

4. Hair must be pulled back for all classes. Hair should be secured in a bun for Ballet classes.
For all other classes, hair should be in bun or ponytail. Short hair must be pulled back out of the face.

5. No jewelry should be worn to class. Post earrings are fine, but please no necklaces, bracelets, etc.

6. No food, drinks or gum allowed in the classroom. Bottled water is fine.

7. No street shoes allowed on the dance floor.

8. Video taping and photographing during classes is prohibited.

9. Dance performance numbers and routines are the sole property of the instructor. Students are prohibited to perform these numbers at functions, shows or competitions, without written consent from your instructor. This includes talent shows, parties, etc.

10. Parents should not interrupt classes for any reason. Quick questions can usually be addressed at the beginning or end of your child’s class, but once class is in progress, it is usually best to leave a message at the front desk, and the instructor will get back to you as soon as possible.

11. Tuition accounts must be current in order for students to participate in classes and performances.

12. Placement and advancement in classes is at the instructor’s discretion.

13. Students are required to attend class regularly to be eligible to participate in recitals and performances. Excessive absence may be just cause to pull student out of performance numbers.

Dress Code for Girls and Women

Pre-Ballet/Tap(ages 3-5)
-Basic black leotard(long or short sleeve-poly., cotton, or lycra-no velvet)
-Ballet pink dance tights
-Pink Ballet slippers-Bloch Brand only, must fit with no growing room. Payless and Walmart shoes are not allowed.
-Black oxford style Tap shoes-Bloch or Capezio brand, must fit with no growing room.

Ballet Classes(Children, Teens and Adults)
-Basic black leotard(long or short sleeve-poly., cotton or lycra-no velvet)
-Ballet pink dance tights –footed or convertible only
-Pink Ballet slippers-Bloch brand only. Students age 6 and up wear Bloch
split sole Ballet shoes in Pink. Shoes must fit with no growing room
-Adult students and children in Level 3 and up may wear black wrap Ballet skirt.

Pointe(Teens and Adults)
-same dress code as Ballet class
-Consult with your instructor for Pointe shoe requirements.
-Enrollment in Pointe classes are by instructor’s approval only.

Jazz Classes(Children, Teen and Adult)
-Leotard of any style and color(no tutus or skirts may be worn)
-Tights(suntan, black or pink)
-Jazz pants or dance shorts(optional)
-Black split sole Jazz Oxfords(Capezio or Bloch brand only-must fit with no growing room)

Hip Hop(Children, Teen and Adult)
-Same dress code as Jazz Class.
-Shoe requirement-Black split sole Jazz Oxfords(Capezio or Bloch brand only). Students may also wear Dance Sneakers(Capezio or Bloch brand only). No street shoes or tennis shoes for this class.

Tap Classes(Children, Teen and Adult)
-Leotard of any style and color
-Tights(suntan, black or pink)
-Jazz pants, dance shorts or dance capris
-Black oxford style tap shoes(Bloch or Capezio only)
No Mary Janes or patten leather shoes

Acrobatics and Gymnastics
-Leotard of any style and color-no skirts or puffy sleeves
(After the beginning of the year, there will be a specific studio leotard that will be required for all Acrobatics and Gymnastics classes. You will be instructed on where to purchase).
-Shoes-Capezio Athenians in white

Hula and Tahitian
-Dancers should wear shorts and tight fitting t-shirt or tank top and Parea.
-Class is done barefoot
-Students will be required to purchase Hawaiian instruments for this class.
There are specific requirements for each class level, so please consult with
your instructor for additional information.

Dress Code for Boys and Men

Pre-Ballet/Tap(3-5 year olds)
-Black Tights
-Plain White t-shirt(tucked in)
-Black Ballet slippers(Bloch or Capezio brand only) with black socks or
white Ballet slippers(Bloch or Capezio brand) with white socks
-Black oxford tap shoes(Bloch or Capezio only)

Ballet(Boys and Men)
-Black tights
-Plain white t-shirt (tucked in)
-Black Ballet slippers (Bloch or Capezio) with black socks
or White Ballet slippers(Block or Capezio)with white socks
-Dance Belt

Jazz or Hip Hop(Boys and Men)
-Jazz pants or sweats
-Tight fitting t-shirt or tank top(tucked in) or leotard/unitard of choice
-Jazz oxfords(split sole-Capezio or Bloch)
Hip Hop students may war Dance Sneakers

Tap
-Same attire as Jazz
-Shoe requirement is Black oxford taps(Capezio or Bloch)

Acrobatics/Gymnastics
-Fitted sweatpants or shorts
-Fitted white t-shirt(tucked in)
-Shoe requirement is Capezio Athenians in White
