As writers must learn to organize their thoughts into words, sentences, paragraphs, and chapters, artists benefit from learning the language of form, color, texture, shadow, image, and composition to better organize and communicate their thoughts. Pen and Pencil Drawing lessons help students master the ability to create visually complex artwork using fundamental techniques of line width, line shading, direction, cross-hatching and other techniques. Students learn basic shapes and forms, starting with two-dimensional forms and then move quickly to 3-dimensional objects using silhouettes and lines. We also cover foundations of cubes and perspectives which are even more important in drawing. Other topics include basic forms, negative forms, the process to create the illusion of depth and distance, representing reflected light, value contrasts and the quality of light. We also teach you how to represent textures. Approaches include both representational and abstract schools of expression. We've taught beginners to masters and we've learned that everything builds on just a few basic concepts that we will teach you here. Over the past 35 years, our art teaches at the Almaden School in our San Jose studio have taught thousands of young artists with many going on to successful careers in the arts. Even more have gone onto successful lives that include art as part of well rounded and successful lifestyles. Our instructors also always work to maintain the child’s self esteem and personal sense of creativity. Classes meet once a week for 60 minutes year round to ensure continuity for the students. As students complete a painting, their artwork is prominently displayed as part of the Art of the Week or Artist of the Month program. Each of these classes has an additional $10 per month materials fee which covers all materials and supplies needed for the class. |
